Last year I had to replant 7X to get sone up. This year on #2. I soaked them for 5 hours, then planted them into garden that I had made the hole wet, then watered again after covering by 1/2” of dirt. An okra “expert” said at 3/4-1” was too deep. Until last year, okra was always easy to...
Grew California but they get tall and lodge. I understand I can plant thinner and take away some of that. Are there any other varieties I should look at? I eat them green with pods (hate stringing them) and dried. Really want them for green use as much easier to just buy the dried beans.
Watching PBS yesterday about Greek & then Mexican meals, it made we think about this site and it’s members. I now only use @ninnymary recipe for salsa. Can’t help but wonder how many other recipes are out there that are favorites that maybe simple but bring back great memories. I know there...
What were you happy with in 2022? Unhappy with?
Has anyone grown Jersey Devils? Sound interesting.
@Zeedman , will try the orange oxheart’s again next year. Had more positive about them than negative. One that that surprised me was they came on earlier than Big Boys and Better Boys and...
Bought seeds. Started them in March. Transplanted in May. They barely have nubbins on them. Big tall dark green plants. Are they always this slow? What a waste as we’ve had a snow on them. I will let them go till spring, then through the shredder they go. Do I have any hopes that I’ll...
Sorry about your loss. Didn’t read about it until your reply. Take care of yourself. Every day I go to check on variety you gave me, I do think of you and thank you for the seeds.
Curious, why do you eat? Because your stomach is growling and you are Hungry? It’s that time of day? It’s your habit (it’s noon and I eat lunch at noon)? Something looks good? To keep from getting hungry or a head ache?
How do you like to eat it. Not that you can’t add common things like tomatoes, peppers, etc but as I go through non usual vegetables, I wonder how the best way to try it is. See post by @Zeedman on litchi tomatoes-thanks to his contribution I won’t be trying them.
I’m looking at melons &...
After reading thread on tomatoes, interested in yellow. Couple questions:
What do you know about tetra-cis-lycopene?
Where would I find the variety Amish yellowish Orange Oxheart?
Anyone grown Orange Crimea or Chef’s choice Orange Hybrid T?
Anyone else open “Alerts” before scanning threads? If you do in the AM, you may find alerts on posts that are dated “tomorrow “. Curious how the creators of this page can know about posts that will be written in future. They must be that good.
We’ve seen a lot of changes in this country from Jan.2020 that have affected all of us. I use to come on here to learn but also to see how certain posters were doing. (I know I don’t know them but there was the internet attachment). They no longer come on here. Have we become an intolerant...
As I sat on the porch drinking coffee with my old dog while the sun came up, I thought this is as good as it gets. (Pales in comparison to children/g’kids Births). Watching the fog burn off. Seeing the 4 O’clocks still open while day flowers and garden coming back to life. Quiet with sounds...
House voted to repeal the “country of origin” label on food.
Please email your senators to tell them NOT to vote yes on this. I emailed both senators and my rep, telling them that I will do all in my power to get them thrown out of office IF they vote (d) yes. I consider them traitors for...
Ok, maybe I’m a hypocrite because I left to get my sanity back. I forgot rule #1 on internet-anyone can post anything behind a nameless user name. Most (90+%) came here to discuss gardening-not current events. We are a diverse group socially, religiously, politically, and by temperaments...
Anyone grow Them? Thoughts? Free gift from Baker Creek. Not sure they are worth effort to start then replant. Don’t believe anyone will eat them due to color.
Just curious as I see places advertising $5-$8 packets of seeds. For the sake of discussion, separate annuals vs perennials. Perennials hopefully are a long term investment.
I use to buy (not that long ago) 2 flats (48 plants each) for $12-$14-no longer. Now I buy one flat, then supplement...
Are there varieties of zucchini and slicing cucumbers that are resistant to most common diseases or stink bugs? Between bugs and diseases, my crops of these 2 vegetables is pathetic.
