I need to move a gate, problem is 2 screws Philips have badly mangled heads. Anybody have a way to deal with this?
We need more information ... Can you post a photo of your gate ( steel, wood, etc. ? ) and a CLOSEUP photo of the Philips screw area so that we know what you actually have and need to do ?:hu

Is the screw going into wood, Or is it a bolt with a nut,
If it is a screw is it countersunk or does it have a head.

take a 3/16 drill bit, drill the head down about an 1/8" a couple taps what a hammer will break the head off... then use a pair of vice grips to unscrew the threaded part..

If it's holding a hinge the head is against the metal~the hinge has, I'm guessing a couple other screws, if they' able to be taken out, all the others, that is. If all the screws will come out but that one~you may be able, If there is enough room to turn, by lifting the hinge to keep pressure on the bottom of the screw, lifting and turning the hinge as a wrench, once enough of the head is above the hinge you can, as Catfish mentioned, use a Vice grips to clamp down on the screw and by turning the grips unscrew it.

Are we on the same page?
