My club had a bus trip to Philly for the show and this year it was wonderful, the theme was "Jazz it Up" and they had many Jazz musicians and dancers for our pleasure.

The flowers were beautiful and the smell amazing.

If you are interested this site has some nice pictures.
Has anyone ever gone? I went once before and was not thrilled but this year they made up for it.

I'm not going this year on account of living in, you know, Canada :p but I will say that my family always went when I was a kid, and OCMG you are right, the wonderful smell is what I most of all remember from those days. Especially since in the old convention center (not the way it is now) you entered by descending a stairway down to the exhibition floor, and as you started to walk down there the scent would just rise up and envelope you..... mmmmm :)

Frankly the rest of my childhood memories of it are a mixture of awe at the elaborate displays, and utter grinding boredom (my parents were in the SE PA orchid society, tended to enter orchids in competitions there, and we always had to hang around there for about nineteen hours it seemed like, with me and my sister bored senseless in a sea of anonymous strangers' knees :p).

I've only been once as an adult. I still enjoyed the pageantry and the smells, but was pretty 'enh' about the rampaging commercialism, overall. Plus *gee whiz* it has gotten expensive. The convention center is practically in Chinatown, though, which to me would be enough reason to go down there if I lived closer <drool>

I used to go when I lived in PA, but gave up when I was in college. DH and I got to Philly at 8am, bright and early, and STILL couldn't find a place to park that was less than 2 miles from the convention center. I really despise trying to drive in Philly, it's such a poorly-planned city. The public transportation isn't even good enough to get around easily.

The Boston Flower Show is this week, though. Oh boy!:dance

Enh, go earlyish in the morning, park at one of the garages in Chinatown, then eat in Chinatown before going home :)

But yes, driving in Philly is not a good thing to have to do, otherwise.

Pat, now feeling all flower show and good-food deprived :p

Couple few blocks? Easy walking distance. I would look at a map for you but I hear my nightly ice-cream calling my name, sorry -- try google or such :)
