I bought a few hostas on sale at lowes for a buck. And then I researched them and found out that they need a winter dormancy period and are not usually grown past zone 7. Anyone grow hostas south of 7 and have them look nice big and pretty?

O, I'm not in the south but I do grow hostas. I grow mine in pots. When I grow them in the ground the snails and slugs seem to find them. I really don't do anything to them. They stay in the pots year round and come back every year. I keep telling myself that I need to add alittle fertilizer to them but I forget to do it. Of course our weather is mild year round.

I'm in 7b, they grow in the shade at my house. They get about mid thigh high and have pretty shoots coming out of them. The leaves aren't as big as some I've seen.

well I guess we shall see if they like the mild winters or if they need the cooling period.
