We had the smaller of our Harry Lauders ( contorted hazelnut) Surrounded by 24 inch chicken wire. Usually protected the bush fine. Then we got a big blowing snow in January. I never looked or noticed that the drifts allowed the rabbits to now reach over the wire. And they did.... chewing off everything in reach :( It is going to survive but at about 1/2 it size!

we've had them do that here too a few seasons. for our very tiny cedar trees that we want to protect for the winter we put five gallon buckets over them, they actually survive this treatment very well.

the deer really munched some of the cedar trees quite a bit this winter, as usual they don't trim the ones i'd wish they'd trim...
