black lump on tree? no, young raccoon...

not often to see in the middle of the day. but looked up to see this lump on one of the back trees in the treeline. normally those trees aren't lumpy... must be getting grubs or beetles from rotting part because it was up there digging in and pulling stuff out...

was only a bit and all melted/gone by now. the rains we had a few weeks ago really ruined the snow pack we had. mother nature is running nekkid. with all the freeze-thaw cycles we're having at the surface i'm expecting a lot of the transplants last fall in the strawberry patch to be close to popping out of the ground.
