Hi there,
I have broad beans planted and they have lots of flowers.
The flowers seem to open for about a week but then they die off.
The beans are still growing and producing more flowers.
Is it normal for the flowers to die?
Do the beans come after the flowers die?
Thanks,
Fionn.

Interestingly, I have a batch of broad beans this year which is doing just that - flowering like crazy but not setting any seed pods. I've never had that problem before. Am wondering if all the temperature swings we have experienced this year are to blame - don't know what it has been like in Ireland, but you are right in the middle of what is supposed to be good climate for this crop.

Anyone else having issues with broad beans this year?

My broadbean plants either die or fail to produce ..

. because of the sudden onslaught of heat and dryness!

They are probably not a very good choice for here.
