After doing some research on a Camellia have in my back yard I found the tea variety to be quite nice.

I am in the process of re-landscaping my yard and thought it would be nice to have a row of camellia bushes in front of the house to replace the holly and azalea that are there now.

Would I be correct to assume the Tea variety will stay green in the winter months?

How fast do they grow. I saw that some types will reach 50' if left untrimmed!!!!! I only need 4-5'

Camellias aren't 'bushes', they're small trees. Trying to keep something that wants to be 50' to 5' would be a constant struggle, I'm afraid.

yeah, using a camellia as a foundation BUSH is a bad idea. they are more like small trees. although some people do shape them, they are much prettier in their natural state in my opinion. i like to limb them up to make a nice tree. my mom likes to make everything into a meatball shape, however.
