We have 50 meaties growing in the orchard. It's turning out to be a great set up!

It's a pretty swank resort, as chickens go...

It has:

Security Patrol

6000 sq ft of play ground with lots of opportunity for bug hunting and outdoor dining

a 120 sq ft condo with bunk beds

and of course, the opportunities to meet that special someone

He is a Maremma Livestock Guardian. He and his brother have raised my chicks for the past 3 years, plus they protect my lambs, goats and calves. Awesome dogs!

Cletus and Bruno are such good boys. ( I feel like I know them through your blog.) Such big loves, too. Just want to hug 'em. :hugs

Now that is the way to do meaties! Very nice setup. I hope someday I can use LG dogs. Such a perfect idea!

That is such an ideal set-up. Happy chickens are tasty chickens. ;) And you'll have the added benefit of less bug problems in your orchard too. :thumbsup

that's a really nice set up. I think i'm going to copy much of your idea. I've got a loafing shed i'm going to have goats in. I can attach a structure like you've got there on the outside wall for the chickens.

beautiful dog. in my climate i'm more inclined to go for the Anatolians with their short hair.

It sure has made it easy! No stink, they have plenty of bugs to eat along with their food, shelter, and there is a little spring in there so I don't even have to water them. No messing up my garden. Last year they were in my yard and I was tripping over chickens all the time. The REALLY great thing is they have to exercize to get their food which keeps them from having all the problems that CX are famous for. That is an electric fence so nothing can push it over. I'm really happy with this set-up. The only predators I worry about are the hawks and owls which is why Bruno is in there but I think as they get bigger, maybe he can go back to loose patrolling as he is my perimeter dog. Doesn't even seem like there are 50 chickens there!:tools
