Similar to my post on the evergreen vine...

I need a evergreen shrub that will grow to about 10 feet to screen an industrial neighbor. I can't have it get much higher as it will screen out too much late afternoon sun. Any suggestions?

Can you grow strawberry tree (Arbutus unedo) in your area? The nice thing about them is they flower, fruit, are drought tolerant, and they can also tolerate being pruned drastically if they get too big.

Arborvitae and norway spruce will quickly become too big for the space (if this is just shrub space and it has to stay <10' tall) and cannot be continually contained by pruning. Good for some situations, not for this one, I'd say.

Mugo pine grows awful slow for somewhere you want a screen. Also it is rather unreliable at nurseries whether they're selling you a full-size one (adult height ca. 20-30 ft) or a dwarf one (reaching maybe 3' after 20-30 years), no matter what the label says.

What about a yew (if hardy in your conditions) or an Eleagnus pungens (if not invasive in your area).

Good luck, have fun,

Pat
