I have not had good luck with my jalapenos this year til recently. They were not growing or were just staying so small. Then I found a bag with some left over blood meal (nitrogen) and I sprinkled a bit around the peppers and viola I get some nice size peppers. I have read that pepper/eggplants in general prefer to be fertilized almost to the point of burn. Now I understand it. They likey that nitrogen. So maybe if your pepper are small add some nitrogen.

Now I am wondering how to fertilize them real good without hurting the other veggies I grow in my 8x4 beds.

Thanks for the tip -- I am just going out to follow your advice, my plants are small too. I'll let you know how they respond. I have got a few peppers already but they are Thai ones/very hot & delicious. :frow

Can't speak to your area but they do like nitrogen early. Up here, given late, they will go to vegetation and not peppers. Best way to fertilize is foliar, then the plants get it that you want to feed without bothering the other plants.
