while i am appreciatvie of those in the armed services i also appreciate the rest of the people in this country who work hard and treat others decently. when you look around the rest of the world there's still a lot of places where they don't have the freedoms we have and some have lost freedoms recently which is even worse. it's like the world is going backwards.

i think of how lucky i have been to have been born here and i never take it for granted.

(While I appreciate the nod given to the vets) IMO that is what we celebrate on the 4th... the freedom to choose & pursue our own destiny. If the day comes when we no longer cherish that freedom, we will be at risk of losing it.

I hope everyone had a good 4th, and is able to enjoy a day off tomorrow. Almost the whole family came over today, our first big gathering post-Covid. Good food, a lot of catch-up conversations - and HUGS! :hugsThis 4th brought an extra helping of appreciation for the simple things. Lit off some safe fireworks with the grand kids, and some bigger fireworks with my sons after sunset. It seemed everyone in the neighborhood was doing the same thing.

All of the firework shops were completely sold out, due to much of their stock being held up due shipping backlogs in the Port of Los Angeles... so the irony of celebrating U.S. independence with Chinese fireworks was not lost on me.

there were a lot of fireworks going off around here the past few nights. i like the lights but i don't like the noise so my favorite method of watching them is on t.v. with the sound turned down low or off. last night i watched only a few minutes, i just wasn't really in the mood for sitting and watching anything. i had a really bad joke played on me as a kid when someone threw an M80 in a fire when i wasn't looking and i was standing by it and another time at a large fireworks display a big boomer went accidentally into the crowd not too far from where we were watching and messed up some people pretty bad. aside from me being mildly PTSD from birth... there is something i do like about being in a crowd watching fireworks though all the oohs and aahs! :)
