Found a small clump of this unusual plant with such beautiful leaves down at my MIL's. It is not anything she has planted and we don't remember seeing it before. It was alongside a little creek in a wooded area, so maybe it washed down stream and got planted here. I should have gotten a pic of the clump itself. It wasn't very tall yet, less than a foot, no flower or stalk at the time. The leaves came up out of the clump not arranged in any particular fashion. Have you ever seen anything like it?

It looks like a maple. Perhaps from a sapling that was eaten or broken down in the past. If so, keep close watch on it. It could end up being a viral infection that has resulted in a type of "Witch's broom" or mutated plant that could be valuable. It is a variety I'd love to have growing.
