Okay, so I tried to leave a message at the extenion office but I think the voice mail was full, but then I remembered that I knew someoneathatworked at a nursery.I called and talk to her and she gave me the info on the apple trees that do well in the area I live! Well no Golden Delicious for me :( But thats okay. She did tell me what apple trees do very well here. So,I'm taking a little trip to the nursery today to pick up one Melrose apple tree and one Sparton apple tree. And for extra excitement all the fruit trees are 50% off!!!! I wonder if the blueberry bushes are 50% off as well???.

Absolutely nothing wrong with getting two trees and yes, make sure they pollinate each other. But I'll also mention that crab apples make great pollinators for regular apple trees. Not that I want to be an enabler, but if crab apples are also on sale, you could have a backup pollinator if either of your other trees does not do well. Just a thought.

Editted to add: Crab apples bloom for a long period of time but you might want to check at the nursery to assure that the specific crab apple will be blooming at the same time as the regular apples. Many commercial orchards use crab apples as pollinators. They do not affect the fruit, just the seeds.

I will take a look at the crabapples trees.I'm just limited to space.I would have an orchard if I could but I live in the city and there isnt that much room in my yard.I'll be good with two but if I can fit in more I will.Maybe one of the neighbors might want to plant one ??I really doubt it though because they want little to no yard work and fruit tress are more work than they care for, plus a few are elderly and cant get around very well. Thanks for the advice I do truely appreicate it!!

I personally like Emry's Garden in Edmonds. They are helpful and carry apple trees that will actually mature in time before it freezes out here. But most real nurseries will do that. It's sucky to buy an apple tree on a stock that takes 5 years to mature, just to find out that it was and "early" "September ready", negating the fact test grounds are in eastern Washington, meaning a bushel of sour apples in our area. Emry's has some hybrid trees with different grafts too, but not sure how those do.

I used to sell birdhouses and feeders to Emerys Gardens.I havent been there in a few years and I just don't like to travel south because of the traffic..I'm heading out to Smokey Point Plant Farm.Atleast I'll be traveling opposite of the traffic and I can stop by the Co-op in Marysville too.

LOL I understand about the traffic! Especially around broadway and pacific. I'm just south of the city line so don't like to go north for the same reason! Emery's just like 2 miles away. Hope you can find some good trees at the farm!

I guess I just enjoy the simple things now that I'm done with the rat race. They are soaking right now and should be ready to plant tomorrow.Thank you again for the advice everyone.

Congrats! Gardening is so fun. I drove 300 miles to get home just to plant some trees, and make that trip every 6-8 weeks to maintain my garden back home.
