Not nearly enough, Steve. I'm getting up in the dark and the chickens have slowed down to nearly a halt. Only one egg Sunday and two Monday.

I am letting the girls take a break until after Christmas or so when I'll turn the lights back on to simulate longer day length.

Reminder to self: get the electricial done asap. Don't wanna be running wires once it gets cold and I removed the extension cord to my coop last spring in anticipation of finishing the garden shed wiring. Sigh. Another project on my list that didn't get done this summer.

we have mostly full sun in the vegetable gardens.

some of the trees are starting to get big enough to
cast a little shade, but as of yet it is tolerable...

when it becomes intolerable i forsee cedar fence
posts and piles of wood chips (and a hefty bill since
the white pines are now bigger than i can take down
by hand). i tried to talk Mom into letting me take
the larger trees some years ago, but was overruled.

Over an hour and a half have been lost here since the first frost on 9/22.

Over 5 and a half hours of sunlight have been lost since our longest day in June.

By the December Solstice, a couple more hours lost.

Over an hour and 45 minutes has been lost ...

I won't do a quarter hour measuring as we continue to the shortest day ;). Instead, I will try to be happy in the moment. That a blanket of fog protects us from severe cooling again this morning. That it is a good thing that I'm not commuting at high speeds. That a blue sky, sunny fall day is again predicted ...

I encouraged my son, who has work hours extending now into the darkness to try to relate the absence of light to something dark that he enjoys, like coffee. Not to drink it late, just to relate ...
