My little girl got a kick out of the "fish pond". I thought the widget at the bottom, the what's in season thing was neat. IMO, pictures really make a blog. I try to have pictures for every post if possible. Looks like you've got that part down well. It's good also to try to stay mostly within the range of your theme so that your readers know what to expect if they subscribe to your feed (anything too far off would require another blog...ha.) Looks like you have everything in place.

That was my thought on both of them, their is a lot of cool apps (thats what the blog calls them) avalible
