Or, if a really huge old oak tree in your yard falls in the middle of the night, and no one hears it because you just got triple pane windows installed, does it make a noise?

DH took the trash out this morning and turned around to see our 100+ year old double trunked oak had split apart in the night, falling to the west and to the east. It is an absolute mess, but thankfully it didn't fall on the house or any of the vehicles. Just a smaller tree and forsythia bush.

It was so full of acorns and also grape vines covered with grapes, and the ground was soggy and the tree was starting to separate at the V, there's no telling how much weight was hanging on those branches. Apparently we got a strong wind with the latest storm. I saw a few other large branches and a tree or two down when I went into town this morning.

We are hoping someone will want to cut it for firewood. We don't think it is white oak, otherwise might be worth some money.

it can be hard to find anyone who wants such wood for furniture or hobby making because too often trees in yards have metal in them which can be a severe problem for someone milling wood. you may find someone who wants it for firewood. glad nobody was hurt and nothing damaged. :) so lucky indeedy... :)
