Monday a friend come over, rather then bring wine or dessert she bought plants from her garden. Monday evening I planted them, but I just found a bunch of irises that I over looked and didn't plant. For 2 and a half days their roots have been out of dirt exposed to air. I have them soaking in a buket of water now. Do you think they can surive ?

I think they'll be fine. They will probably look pretty pitiful until next spring - and they might not bloom till the one after that... but they should live - and eventually thrive.
Do you know what color they are?

Very pretty! Irises are one of those tubers that you could just toss in the back of your compost pile and not even plant them and they would do fine. Tough buggers! What a nice gift. :D

Yup, as others have said- hard to kill. My Mom had some in a bucket in her garage for the whole summer- and they were fine when I planted them. Definitely, not too late! They sound pretty.
