Remember when TV was free

We don't pay for tv. We just get broadcast on an antennae. But really most of it is crap anyway and not worth wasting time on IMO.
I'd rather read.

I live on history documentaries, mostly on youtube. I agree on reading, as I read at least a novel or two each week. What our library does not have they borrow from large libraries nearby and hold for you.

You should tell us about those YouTube history documentaries, Jack. DW uses casting to the tv a lot and I sit through a good deal of her YouTube interests .

I cut the Comcast Cable a couple of years ago. The problem was poor reception, including internet service. The first couple of times we complained the response was to cut our monthly fee. That was okay but the poor service didn't improve.

Finally, I just gave up on them and hooked up the roof antenna again. It didn't work too well, mostly because it was twisted when the siding was installed ... or, maybe it was the roofing installation. Anyway, the workers turned it while we had Comcast and it wasn't being used so I thought I didn't care. I can't reach it with my extension ladder. The public tv station comes in fine and we don't watch much tv, anyway. I have rabbit ears and they actually work somewhat for the station we have lost because of that turned antenna. However, nothing else is so great ... oh well, it's all free tv. Switch from roof to rabbit ears and back, sometimes.

First tv I saw had such poor picture quality I couldn't figure out what I was watching. We could still hear the N B C played but then we, like, immediately moved and had CBS for 5 or 6 years with no NBC. Then, both showed up! It wasn't until 1965 that PBS was available and I don't remember when I first saw ABC. Sure, it was all free but there were monopolies and advertising. I'm concerned that we are heading down a path where internet service will be limited and expensive. Cords may not be able to be cut except to have no internet service.

We cut the cord in 2011. Now about to drop the landline phone since the 2 cell phones cost under $30 per month. The landline we hardly use & costs more in taxes & fees just to have it hooked up. We have 2 Roku boxes but only watch about 4 different channels, 3 we pay for-hulu, netflix & drama fever with crunchyroll being the free channel. Occasionally i'll watch some other channel to see what its about. Streamed the super bowl on Fox Now but would need cable any other time to watch them.

I'm not planning on going back to cable or dish. The day I came home & my dh was watching A Team I realized I was paying too much for watching re-runs.

We also have two Rokus and two Fire Sticks. There are free services like Crackle and tubitv that we use in addition to several free services that have old movies from the 30s,40s 50s and 60s. Right now I am watching a free service with an English Program I like. Actually, we have far more options than we had with Time Warner.

Mary! Nice to hear from you. You have been keeping a low profile lately. Oh, that nasty four letter word: snow. I am at this moment waiting for it to let up some so I can snow blow a foot of it off the driveway. Of course, it will be of little use as the wind is howling up a storm and the temp is only 17.

If you have a decent internet speed of 25 mbs or so you could look into streaming. Cable has soooooo many junk reality shows now it is ridiculous. Some weepy-voiced narrator moaning that some deranged person is heartbroken about not being able to throw away her rusty old toaster.

Other than documentaries I have not watched anything in decades, my wife, however, has it on constantly.
