Fabric has been banned from this household. Several years ago the DW chose a spot for her rose garden I was planting for her. We used the fabric to help keep the weeds at bay. Well, the longer it was in, the more dirt and composted mulches ended up on top of it. Eventually the grass and weeds started growing on top of it. The were still very easy to pull due to the shallow root systems. Then, I decided to build her a raised octagonal rose garden in the back yard. We had to move the roses from the front yard because they would have been destroyed when construction begins on the new house. As the grass grew back over the old rose bed, I made the mistake of running over it with the lawn tractor. It managed to suck up a tiny flap of the old fabric. It took over an hour to get all that crap untangled from the blades.

Oh crap! Machinery entanglement. That would be reason enough to swear off the stuff. I understand.
