I really liked that hypertufa project... It was the greatest finished product but I will try some more. I will get better I am sure.

I saw somewhere about some really nicely done piece that were created as firepits and waterfalls. I want that link again for sure.

I want to design a firepit.... and I need help with ideas and how to go about this. Should I use wire, should I NOT use hypertufa, should I just go buy one?!

This is going to be a LARGE pit... not a little patio 3'x'3 either. We burn a lot of land and clearing stuff throughout the summer and fall months. We try to keep the woods cleaned up and the pond and end up with large piles.

I would like some ideas for molds to do some designs on it, and perhaps what would be the most sounds base to start this project with.

Links would be great!!!

(Also, I am doing this myself... I'm going to try this without hubby... I'm stubborn like that.)

If this is going to be permanent and you want to decorate the exterior I would suggest looking into the cost of fire brick and refractory mortar or fire clay. I would think you would need to pour a foundation of concrete and rough out your design with brick or block or poured concrete and then line the inside with fire brick. The exterior is then covered with a facade of... stone, stucco, or the bricks you "roughed" it out with, whatever you want the outside to look like. There are other ways, but that is probably the best for a long lasting pit with few problems IMO. Good luck! :)

We have a large firepit (getting bigger this year) We just poured sand down in the area, and used limestone as a wall but are replacing it with fire pit blocks which link together so no grass gets inside and accidentaly catches on fire. You can buy them at your local hardware store.
