That is, much of that detective work is not far south. Despite being first in the nation for apple production, Washington State isn't the original home of the apple.

The preservation orchard is off to the southwest and south of Portland Oregon. Molalla. That name struck a chord, a Native American chord :). Before I said something about the Molalla and their relatives who they referred to as "The People of the Serviceberry," I decided to check the term. Yes, Leslie Spier ethnographic study from the 1920's. And, maybe just because Google knew that it was me doing the looking -- up jumps a link to TEG!
