I am in southern Kansas, three miles from Oklahoma and on the southern edge of the Flint Hills. We are zone 6 so it's hard for me to find the foods I grew up eating in the Dallas, TX, area. No one around here eats collards, okra, or figs.
I am in South Central Kansas. We planted Okra this year and my Grandma plants it every year. We lived in Southwest Oklahoma for the last 5 years and I know alot of people down there plant okra.
The few people I know who do garden often plant okra but most people stick with the tried and true stuff like tomatoes and peppers. We have red lettuce, beets, garlic and several types of flowers planted and at least the veggies are up. I bet by next weekend we may have enough to eat salad.
