Since a lot of my wonderfully scented Old Roses are in full bloom now I have been collecting the petals just before they fall so I can make Pot Pourri.

This means I can have a perfumed memory of this summer in the coming winter. I mix the petals with powdered Orris Root as they dry (This helps preserve the smell -- it's the root of an Iris). I will add other flowers to some of the mixture later but I love the pure rose one best. I add salt & spices too.

I love making it as it's such a link with the past -- women have been making this for hundreds of years. It was often the only luxury in a very hard life, made with their own hands!

Does anyone else make it & if so do you have favourite recipes?
