Pumpkins in Containers?

Has anyone ever grown pumpkins in containers? Is it possible, and if so, how large a container would you recommend using?

It depends on the variety. Most pumpkins have very large root systems and would not do well in a container, unless the container was fairly large. If you're considering container growing pumpkins because of a space issue, consider what you will do with the vine when it begins to grow. Most pumpkins have no problem covering several hundred square feet if left to their own devices.
