Suckers

I have a dwarf sargeant crabapple tree in my landscaping that has grown suckers since we put it in. I cut them off, but it seems that the more I cut them the thicker and fuller they grow back. Any advice as to how to get rid of them or what I should do?

Are they coming right out of the trunk of the tree- or around the ground? I think cutting them is pretty much the only thing you can do-if they are coming up on the ground a heavier mulching might help...

They are growing up from the ground around the base of tree. Guess I'll just mulch it heavily and keep clipping!!

Your tree is probably grafted so that is the root stock sprouting and cuting is the best thing to do.
