I snapped a few picts of the chickens yesterday. Excuse the muddy mess, I'm pretty sure there isn't a clean, dry spot anywhere in VA right now. I'm SOOO looking forward to being able to spend more time with them once it gets a little warmer and dryer.

Cane, how many chickens do you have? What breed is Candy? I see you have a speckle sussex. I soooo want one of those. I've tried 3 times with no success. First one got stuck under a wire panel, second one got taken by a racoon, third one turned into a roo! :barnie

I may start all over with 5 chicks this fall. One of them will Definitely be a speckle sussex!

Thanks Bay. My 'goal' is to have a colorful flock of all different breeds (or funky mixes)

GreenG, Raisin is a silver laced wynadotte.
(not sure if I spelled that right...)
And the one in front of her is a Speckled Sussex.
Lido is a wynadotte too, but her lacing is gold.

Mary, there are 10 hens and the roo.
YES! I have two S.Sussex and they are wonderful! If I had to pick a single breed, they would probably be the one. I hope you can get a couple this spring.

Candy is an easter egger. She was my big hope for colored eggs... but she lays brown ones. Oh well - that just gives me an excuse to keep getting more birds. I'll get those blue and green eggs one day!

Wow. they both look a like, but I see Raisin has a white head.
I am hoping to get eggs to slip under the BO when they go broody this spring.

Here's a better one

The wynadottes have black tips around the edges of each feather, rose combs that sit flat against their heads and more exposed faces. The sussexs have brown feathers with a black and a white stripe across the tips.
