Three New Chicks

I bought 3 red sex links and 3 black sex links several years ago. They laid like clockwork, barely took off to molt, kicked right back in and laid until their second molt, then they slowed waaaay down. I butchered a couple of them, have 3 more to go. The grand daughter is asking for some of my home canned chicken broth to take home with her, so I need to get busy.

One of them will have a home until she drops dead, don't care if she never lays again. Although right now she is laying probably 3-4 eggs a week and she is almost 4 years old. Her name is Robin. She is a black sex link and a lot of red shows on her, on her breast, hence the name Robin. Robin has a bad attitude. Robin bites. HARD! Robin is the undisputed QUEEN OF THE COOP. She's big, she's bad and she knows it. We love her.

Nyboy, redheads are pretty and rare. Do the sex links look like Rhode Island Red's? I understand the chicks will turn all one color when grown?

What sold me on them was that they lay a large egg and are egg machines. My barred rock's egg is on the small size so she will go so that I can have room for these 3 chicks. That will leave me with 3 hens and 3 pullets. In the past, I've integrated 2 chickens at a time and it was hard. I don't like to see pecking. They are separated by chicken wire in the coop for weeks before I integrate them and you would think they would be friends by then. But no, they still have to peck each other. This is the first time I will integrate 3 so we will see how it goes. I'm hoping the numbers will be more even and it will be better. But you never know with chicken's pecking order.

Thank you @Carol Dee !! She rules the roost! I guess she'll live to a ripe old age as I just don't see her in the soup pot. Robin is at the top of the pecking order.
