Kale from the garden, not in but along side, a bowl of noodles. Nothing in that noodle bowl is from the garden. Shucks.
We may have jumped the gun a little because it nearly whittles the kale stems down to having zero leaves and no buds yet. The leaves were incredibly tender and mild!
It would have been appropriate if there was some galanga in the noodles, since I mentioned them this morning in @ducks4you 's thread but there were none in the cabinet . A package of beef was found in the fridge.
Today, for the first time — bok choy . It isn't from the outdoors but, rather, from the beds protected by the hoophouse.
There isn't much of a recipe. There was a little oil in the skillet. Ground beef went in. As it cooked, some shedded bok choy was added. Simple and appreciated so, here we go !
The bok choy is looking as though it will be getting ahead of us before many more days. That is both within the hoophouse and in the outdoor beds. Flowering shoots will be on the menu. Sheesh, 2026 weather is speedy. Plenty of mustard greens will continue. Other Asian greens continue.
Lettuce now from those started and moved as transplants. Oh, we have already had lettuce. Where from? Volunteers! Italienischer is notable but there were others. This is what can be gained from allowing plants to run through their life cycle so that a gardener can save seed. Something like lettuce — it is all but impossible to contain those seed pods from just a few plants. After all, the species didn't show up in the first place, relying on human control and physical coordination . Especially, under that hoophouse plastic film, lettuce volunteers made an early debut. Outside. I will have a picture of an unlikely location for one plant when we have sunrise.
