I'm going to start some canning this year, mostly tomatoes & blackberries to start. I've picked out my canner, an All American 921 21-1/2-Quart. Now I'm looking at strainers/food mills. So far, I've come up with 2 basic types: A food strainer, such as http://www.amazon.com/Norpro-The-Or...TF8&coliid=I2EXJMPCAK1M75&colid=1YNPXA80JSPIY, or a Food mill, such as this http://www.amazon.com/Mirro-Foley-2...UTF8&coliid=I5V0EFYGVJZB4&colid=1YNPXA80JSPIY.

I've watched videos of both kinds and each seem to have their own pros & cons. The strainer seems to be messy, but quick. The mill seems to be neater, but slower.

Which would you recommend?

This may be too late! I just saw your post. I got a Norpro Sauce Master and am very pleased with the sauce results. It is a little tricky getting it clamped to my counter, but it separates seeds/skin from pulp well. You will develop muscles crankling it!!!!

I will be using it tomorrow with the "salsa" attachment that makes a little chunkier results, according to the information. Maybe less cranking. In all, even the first time use was easier than my previous tomato sauce canning method, with better results.

After weeks & months of deliberating, I purchased the B2B Food Strainer & Sauce Maker, http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000I4Y4PK/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i00. I decided on this type, then on the B2B, although I can't remember why. I had to return the first one, since it appeared that the middle screw thing was warped. The one I have now seems perfect! I also purchased the berry screen & the salsa screen. I haven't given it a try yet, but I think next week I'll put it to the test with salsa!!

I bought a Victorio food mill this summer, only about $40. Didn't buy the berry and salsa strainers yet, tho. Don't think I will need them till next year. I like mine just fine, and it is easy to clean and put away.

I used the pumpkin screen with my Norpro yesterday. Some seeds came through, but I was still happy with the results. I clamped the mill to my kitchen table instead of the kitchen counter, lowering it a few inches and it was much easier to crank. I processed 2 5 gallon buckets plus some, very quickly.
