I am laughing bc everybody is Still posting on Weather, 2024!! :gig
We just dipped below 0 degrees F a week ago and tomorrow morning will be -3, Tuesday morning will be -5, and Wednesday morning will be -3 again.
After that, high's near 32 sounds warm-ish.
The ONLY GOOD thing is that we didn't get any appreciable rain Friday night and no more snow, and a lot of the snow has melted. I have been throwing down snow melt where I need walk on cement and the 20-35mph winds have been drying it up.
THE.VERY.WORST.WINTER.WEATHER.......................is ice.
DH asked me When it will warm up again. I said....late March.
Ponies are still outside, living in the shelter. I spot cleaned and moved a full wheelbarrow today. Pretty remarkable since my knee isn't quite healed, but I was VERY CAREFUL.
I filled up the sweet feed bowls, put hay in their stalls and straw--I started the season with 65 bales of straw, so I can afford to be generous.
This evening I need to fill and carry buckets of water to their rubber water buckets, then let them in. That's no trouble. I open the gate to their turnout and they go immediately to their stalls. Then I shut them in and close doors.
I think I will put the end of my "supposed to keep water running to -20 degrees F" hose under the tarp covered picnic table and see if that keeps the end of the 100 ft hose warmer.
Otherwise, I will need to fill 1/2 buckets in my basement and carry them out to the barn, something I probably should NOT be doing, but I may not have any choice.
Fortunately, the 2nd half of January is most often The Coldest part of our year, and after that it's unlikely to dip down this low again until Next January.

Please for heavens sake be careful. If this hose warming doesn't work, I hope someone in your family would help you with this water chore until your knees have fully recovered.

I already did the hard work today. The boys will be snug and warm, it's a wooden barn, so their heat radiates back to the pine shavings, the pine pellets keep the stalls dry and each stall is roomy enough, 12' x 12' and 10' x 12'.
They can listen to the wind howling.
When they are in their stalls and the temperatures are in the 20's, I can predraw water and leave buckets in my grain room, smallish room with a door and latch, and the water doesn't freeze. THAT's how much heat they kick out!

Do you have a trolley you could get the heavy buckets on?, just a thought 🤔
 
I don't carry buckets that are too heavy. I just make more trips.
I also invested in a lot of LED lights. I just changed the bulbs in the 2 bulb floodlight outside of the back door.
Both are 100 watts.
Two years ago we replaced the broken one there And got a dusk to dawn self contained light on the north side walk in door of the garage, AND I found photosensitive light bulbs for the garage lights on the east side of the garage, AND the new barn light is an LED.
We are lit up at night, so it's much less likely for me to fall.

Pleased about your lighting improvements.
But please get yourself inside safe and warm then put those precious knees out of harms way :hugs
 
-40 C/-40F tonight and -42C/-44F in the morning. It's actually getting colder than expected! Frostbite in minutes warning flashing on the WN. So hard on the doggo, trapped inside with no exercise and needing the 'outdoor facilities' so to speak. Ack, too cold for me. Only good part is this will knock down the mice and vole numbers for the 2025 garden, lol.
