Hi from Western North Carolina

Hi Mary, I'm about 50miles North east of Asheville NC.My chickens and ducks and geese free range during the day on half an acre fenced in unless I can be out with them then they can roam all over [this is after everything is fully growing and large.] I just started letting everyone out some in the afternoon so I can keep an eye on them. We live in the middle of the woods so preds galore. We also have blueberry bushes, Blk berry bushes and cherry trees, crab apple, peach trees. Our blue berry bushes didn't do so well this year not sure why we have acidic soil but may not acidic enough? peaches in spite of late frosts did very well even though the fruit was small, Cherry tree is still young and only had 1 cherry on it this year, I saw it first so I got to taste it, it was good. Crab apple still too young to give fruit. Where are you Mary?

Yes, I started on BYC, lurked on BYH, learned from SS and found "home" here at TEG! Your garden sounds lovely. We're moving at the end of the year and fruit, nut trees, berries and more berries are on my list!

Day lilies are one of my favs so many colors, I use to go to alot of Day Lily farms around here but no room for more so just enjoy what I have. I like plants that are tough enough to stand up to the flock. I'd love to have some Pecan trees but living on the side of a mountain doesn't give us much room for many trees other than the native ones and I'm not sure if they would grow in our climate anyway, sure do like them though and Almond trees so pretty when in bloom. I actually planted the first peach tree more for the beautiful flower than the fruit now we get both. I'm thinking you probably have alot of Pecan trees in Texas?

Miss Lizzie, I live in Alameda across the bay from San Francisco. It is a 6 mile, man made island. It's a little warmer than the "city" and it's only 20 minutes away. Perfect for my husband who works there. My only complaint is that the weather here should really be 10 degrees warmer.

@Miss Lizzie we have lots of pecan trees in Texas! I wish I had one in my yard! But there are some at the city library and there are several in a huge empty lot just down the street. I go there in the fall and pick them up!

I put up a fence to keep my fowl out of the veggie garden. So far it has worked well unless I forget to shut the gate.
