well, you got me excited to look into entering some items to this year's Rochester Fair. just finished filling out their online entry form and after all was done i have a total of 18 entries i'm hoping will make it to the fair whether i take them or my dh!
most of what we're sending in are potatoes-3 different types, tomatoes-reds and greens in both beefsteak and cherries and a purple striped, beans, garlic and jams.

What a great job! I had so much fun showing my eggs at the last show. The judge even took the time to show me how to sort my eggs so that they look 10x better than they would otherwise.

AMKuska, can you tell me how to sort my eggs to make them look better? I give a dozen every week to one of my coaches and I just try to balance mixing the different colors trying to make them look pretty!

Ninnymary: For show you want the eggs to appear as close to the same size and color as possible. Uniformity isn't everything, but it really does help. You can make them appear more even by pairing them up by color and size. Largest and darkest in the back, smallest and lightest in the front. It can be really hard to choose the best pairings when you've got one thats lighter but larger or smaller but darker. Sometimes you have to play with it to get it to look just right. She stacked my two for me, and then had me practice on the other eggs in the show lol. It definitely made the eggs look WAY different. I now do it on the eggs that I sell for practice.

I wish I could get my grandchildren interested in 4H. I suppose they are already busy with school and other activities, but Gypsy (13) would love showing her cats and Maverick (14) wanted to show chickens at one time.
Gypsy would enjoy Cake Decorating, too. She is the family "Baker. Not cook" and bakes all the treats, desserts, and cookies for us. Like her mother, she is very artistic as well.
