    Homegrown Herbal Tea

I'm instantly obsessed with this ... 🥰 I have lemon balm ALLLL OVER THE FARM... It got loose and is now something that I have to mow in the chicken coop because it gets waist tall and they won't touch it - but mowing the yard smells Amazing! I cut several bunches of long stems and hung them...

    Garden humor thread..

My folks had DECADES worth of Readers Digest Condensed Books... do any of yall remember those? They came monthly and had very pretty 'library worthy' hard covers with 3 or 4 condensed currently popular novels in each one. They tried for years to find somewhere they could donate them.. NO ONE...

    Facebook guy doing DIY Hydroponics

I've seen a couple of videos from this guy who is doing DIY hydroponics using pool noodles, 5gal buckets & some sort of homemade nutrient water. Has anyone seen him? Naturally, when I want to post a question, I can't find a video to link. I always thought it would be too expensive and too...

I heard the most interesting story about the bread used in the Passover service - something about it being covered in stripes and pierced, wrapped in a cloth & hidden away until the end of the celebration.

    FINALLY! A Pawpaw tree!!

Where did you find these? Was it online or a local nursery? I've been looking too. I was at a hellebore sale a couple of weeks ago & someone had pawpaws for $30. Having never tried the fruit, I was reluctant to spend $60. But now that I've checked them out across the internet.. I wish I...

    Thinking of a Move

When I first saw your post I almost jumped in, but since I haven't really done much serious gardening I didn't feel like I had a ton of helpful info. I'm south of Petersburg not too far from the I95 corridor. We often are still getting nights in the 40's all the way to June, so a green house is...

    Thinking of a Move

I was going to dispute this - Richmond alone has enough violent crime to put us way up in the red.. but then I saw the 'per 100,00 residents'. Between the non-residents and the rural western & southern edges, I suppose that averages it out a bit.

    'pasture' for chickens

I plan to rotate them back and forth & I expect that they will likely eat it down to pretty much nothing before the next one is ready. That's why I hope to be able to reseed? Here's a little sketch. The coop & a little hoop-house porch are about 8x16. By closing off the end of the 'porch'...

    'pasture' for chickens

Humm... I hadn't considered the nitrogen. Half of the 'new' pen is the old pen that they have been in for years. I assumed it would be 'rich soil' because lemon balm and some other weed grow prolifically in there, only because they don't like them & won't eat them. I have to actually take...

    'pasture' for chickens

Lessons learned 🤣 I have a problem with slugs & almost got a few ducks JUST so they could patrol my garden. I had been told that they would leave the veggies alone... then someone pointed out that their little flappy feet will stomp nearly everything and are perfect for turning mulch into...

    'pasture' for chickens

This is the pen surrounding their coop, so it will be a 'permanent pasture'. Although, chickens being who they are, I expect they will have it down to bare soil by spring each year. Since they don't free range, this is my 'solution' to them not getting nearly enough bugs, greens & such.

    'pasture' for chickens

I've recently expanded my chicken's yard with the idea of cutting it into 2 'paddocks'. I want to be able to grow something for them to eat in one side while they're in the other - and then switch them back and forth. Can anyone suggest a few things that will grow fast, has seeds readily...

    Ain't so Simple, these Days

.. in my little world - it's startling how messy my house gets M-F when I'm pretty much only there to sleep. I keep accusing the cats of leaving socks and dirty dishes all over the place. They are indifferent to my frustration. Also a tiny bit startling - how many simple foods are available...

Wistful dreams of gardens past, never made ...

You CAN do this!! One step at a time. You don't have to take down the entire blackberry patch in 1 day. But if you don't make a start, it will still be there this Fall. Power tools will help. My pasture fence lines are overwhelmed every summer by blackberry canes. The very BEST thing I've...

    Coffee

I've started a whole thread over on BYH about this very thing! I'm going to be spending most of this year cleaning up PPP&CDC(past poor planning & cheaply done crap)! I've spent more time either ham-stringing myself or wasting time BECAUSE of having done it earlier!
