    Garden heliostat?

The Location I selected for my garden is not great, but is the best I could do in my yard. It is long and narrow, running north and south, and bordered by a privacy fence to the west and a garage to the east. So it only gets direct sunlight for a couple of hours on either side of high noon. I...

    What to do with grass?

Not sure, but I learned last year that when seed packets say "plant in full sun", there is an unwritten exception "except where strantor lives". My full sun plants that I left in full sun were scorched, and my full sun plants that were left in the shade did much better. Maybe it will prove...

    What to do with grass?

Thanks! Embarrassingly, it took made me a whole day to do that. I'm not used to working hunched over, and it made me feel old. I'm not old, I just need to do more gardening ;). Maybe I should say it made me feel like I was stomped in the lower back. Surprisingly I feel just fine this morning...

    What to do with grass?

I'm starting my first in-the-ground garden in the back yard, which is covered in carpet grass and weeds. The front yard has a huge patch of bare ground, and I've been cutting squares of sod out of the back yard to re-sod the front yard and also to create a space for the garden. Now, I've...

    What do these flies want?

They were back again today. On the tomato cage again like before. Same thing as yesterday, just hanging around, creeping me out. I sprayed them again.

    What do these flies want?

They were creeping me out... Like silent protesters with unspoken motive. I don't know what their presence means, but I don't think its anything good. I killed them. Ant spray did the trick. Tried hard not to get any on the plants. Hope it will be OK.

    My watermelon's future uncertain...

yeah the tomatoes were way too many in there. (that was an old pic) I cut them all down but 3. I believe there are 5 watermelon plants growing out of the pot. Next year they will be in the ground. I'll call this a lesson learned.

frustrated with 'puter so i think it might be best . . .

What software are you using to burn the videos to DVD? You can't just drag and drop on the DVD, because the video files have to be reformatted to DVD format. You need a software to do that. Or you could go to Walmart and the the cheap chinese DVD player that plays discs full of .jpg, .bmp, .avi...

That's one use for a keyboard I never thought of.

    My watermelon's future uncertain...

Here's a pic of the containers. I don't know what size they are, but they are about as high as my truck tires. I estimate they are about 20gal.

    My watermelon's future uncertain...

My watermelons did very well when I planted them. The plants grew fast and big and very green and healthy looking. They flowered, grew melons, and maybe in the span of 1 week starting when the melons were tiny, my melons grew to about softball size. then I started getting some kind of disease on...

    What do these flies want?

I went out to water my tomato plants and these large flies are all over. I have not seen flies like this before. They are the biggest flies I have ever seen, not including horseflies (the giant biting type). They are not horseflies, but are very big. They don't seem to be eating my plants, but...

    Farmers Almanac

My experience doesn't count because I don't have any ;). But when I read it, it feels very horoscopish to me. For example, I copied this to my computer a while back: (I've highlighted things that smell particularly fishy to me) How can anyone, months in advance, predict that seeds planted on a...

    Just some pictures

That's what I always heard called a "banana spider." Creepy things. They will start playing trampoline in their web if you get too close. Like some kind of threat that they're about to spring out of the web and onto your neck if you get any closer.

    What is this vicious plant?

Yeah my dad had loads of that menace on his property when I was growing up. Bull nettle is a little more ominous looking than that stinging nettle; something you should obviously stay away from, not a deceptively cute looking thing like the previous pic.
