@secuono , do you live near a river or lake? They gather in this area near the Mississippi river, and some of the larger lakes. A winter time bonus, getting to see these beauties.
Many years ago we went to Loess Bluffs Wildlife Refuge in north west Missouri. Hundreds of bald eagles gather there every winter. Imagine seeing a lot of bald eagles everywhere you look. Very impressive.
When I was in Arkansas a bald eagle flew over the valley I was in a few times, not many. But one time one perched across the road in a dead tree in a pasture not that far from the kitchen window. That made a memory.
One time we were driving in the Black Canyon of the Gunnison area of Colorado. In the wilderness scrub we saw a large bird on the ground. It was the ugliest, scruffiest raggedest bird I've ever seen. It took a while to realize it was an immature bald eagle. Like some of us, they have to mature a bit to achieve really impressive status. Man, that bird was ug-ah-lee.
