It all made a whole pile of good sense to me, Boggy. I read every word except about the worm bin in the house. Not gonna do it.
I am glad that he talked about growing squash in compost. I've done that. Put everything in a trench that will later be a garden bed. Layered in nicely and topped with soil. Leave it the first year. Things take longer to decompose around here and even after digging that trench out 8" to 10", I've had piles that were over 5' tall! Even with the sprinkler hitting it, it doesn't have much moisture that first year.
The 2nd year - winter squash. You'd be surprised how much that pile will collapse. Well, maybe you personally wouldn't be . By the next spring, it is a really great bed for absolutely anything!
