I have a feeling that we are going to hear that it is a "Persian something-or-other" since so many plants in Europe and North America were called "Persian somethings-or-other" 100 years ago.

Persia is now known as Iran but there are many plants from that corner of the world that are now grown in gardens, like the Persian lilac. Of course, we now know it just as the lilac ;).

Tulips are from Turkey.

What is the foliage like?

I wonder if it might be a large-flowered Ornithogalum of some sort? You could google the genus and see if anything looks right.

It is lovely, let us know when you figure it out!!
