th 1st soap opera aired. It didn't even last the full 1949 season!

The creator, Irna Phillips, would soon be back with Guiding Light, As The World Turns, & Days of Our Lives.

Funny how my predictive spellchecker knows these names before I can type them out!

Wikipedia tells us it was, CityFarmer.

It also tells us that Irna Phillips created the 1st radio series that was "specifically targeted for women" first on the air in 1930. Her series Guiding Light came on the radio a few years later.

Personally I was into The Shadow, The Lone Ranger and Yours Truly, Johnny Dollar. Unfortunately, these didn't translate as well to the tube . . .

You can just google y & r and get a bajillion hits on The Young and The Reckless Restless.
When I was about 5, my mom used to watch Days of Our Lives. It was just 15 minutes then. (60 years ago) All they would have time for was "Oh, John!" and "Oh, Mary!" and a couple of commercials, and it would be over. I always associate that show with the smell of ironing cotton shirts, cause Mom used to iron while she watched.
