The man who tills my garden every year came while I was away for the weekend - about 3 weeks ago - and apparently forgot where the peony bed was - he tilled through the whole thing. I see 1 growth coming back up and found a few new roots on the tubers. Any thoughts on if they will recover and anything I can do to help them. BTW he also tilled up the glads and some of the aspargus.

I think all you can do is try to make sure everything is tucked back in place at the right depth -- I believe the tops (eyes) of the tubers need to be 2-3" below soil surface but you should doublecheck that because they are pretty sensitive and the wrong depth will give you a lush plant that never ever flowers.

GOod luck,

Pat

Actually 3" will be too deep, 2" or even a bit less is better.

What a shame - hopefully you can mark it better for next year - or be there when he comes with the tiller! :th

Good thing they root deep-have you every tried to more a bed of them-dang!
Peonies are pretty heardy plants and roots-even if winds blow them over-they're still strong plants growth wise.
Good luck and I'll bet you get some next year-then after a few years even more.
