California poppies!

And . . . pink flax, Boggy'? They go nicely together.

California poppies used to be absolutely everywhere, where I lived as a kid. We'd put them under someone's chin and claim to know, if their chin turned butter yellow - whether they were people who liked butter :p. Here, I've sown seed a couple of times, and see them around in a few places, but my plants usually die over the winter. Maybe that wouldn't be true now.

They seem to especially like to grow around rocks. I think I could find a rock or 2 ;). They even grow up in a broken sidewalk, but only if they want to :).

We used to do that chin thing with dandelions. I can't remember what it was supposed to prove, tho......that you have a sweetheart, maybe? I was doing that with my grand kids the other day with dandelions.

Yes, it might have been for sweethearts too, So Lucky ;).

You know, flax was used not just to make linen but to start fires with flint & steel. Yes, flax would catch the spark and it would stay for awhile, kindling.

Now, someone can say butter might have meant a lot to me as a kid and that isn't a pink flax . . .
