This year I've had to wait for everything!! I did get 5 sweet potato vines in the ground and they are sprawling. Great. Went to weed, picked up a few vines on the ground to find that they were growing roots! I didn't know they could do that. Does anybody know--will these roots turn into more sweet potatoes?

Sometimes they do. I've gotten some real nice sweet potatoes several feet from the main root system when they did that. But they don't always make sweet potatoes with those roots.

Yes, in a long season I have gotten smallish tubers from these rooted nodes. The roots do help the plant grow by providing extra water and nutrient uptake, so overall I take it as a good sign!
