Thanks! I'll avoid that area. I'd rather not be too close to a lake/river due to flooding. My grandparents lived just a short walk from a river and lost their house in a flood. Not keen to follow in their footsteps.I apologize as I was WRONG. Lake Cumberland in KY. They were at Burkesville, KY. Cumberland County.
I've heard NC is dicey from a friend who used to live there. It makes no sense to move to a place that has the same crime rate.Let me know If you narrow down your search in NC, it's dicey in many areas.
Jesus is Lord and Christ
Thanks for the heads up. We're looking for acreage so I can finally have my fruit trees and a really big garden. Hopefully that will make crime less of an issue.I think its dicey in all areas now. Being older and less bold, I'm continually SHOCKED by behavior of humans nowadays. Idiots on airplanes, idiots ignoring Police people, rude, inconsiderate, belligerent, hateful, etc etc etc.
I'm going out of my normal way (in a positive move) to be nice to all people. Thank them for a great job (Medicare Advantage plan lady, HVAC phone person, Doc's office staff, colonoscopy nurses) and tell them they did great!
Crime and homeless in Vancouver is the same as it was in Medford, but way less than Portland or San Jose.
edited to add: Stay away from intra and inter state thoroughfares. Crime likes to travel along those highways. Jackson County and Josephine County in OR have a task force to watch I5 and to pull over anyone, really anyone, looking for criminals and crime rings. Its amazing how many have been nabbed!!
My grandparents lived in South Carolina for many years and loved it there. My grandpa had a lovely garden that included fruit trees. They lived 3 blocks from the beach and so as you can imagine it was super fun to go visit them! Lovely summers if you are ok with humidity. Nice people too!Crime has been really rising in Washington. My husband and I are thinking of moving somewhere with a lower crime rate. All of us as a family took a map of the US and put an "x" on any stats we did not want to live in. The prime areas we've narrowed down to are currently North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia and Kentucky off the top of my head. They're closeish to my family, close to a friend of his, and per my son, it is not Nevada.
If you live, or have ever lived in these areas, what's the growing like? We're looking at acreage so I can have a BIG garden.
My husband put an X on Texas. He had to work there and he says that it rains so hard that when you see a few drops on your wind shield you literally have to pull over because you won't be able to see where you're going in a minute. He also said the freeways were insane--but really great rates on car insurance.Texas is considered a high crime state. I wasn’t surprised. Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, big cities with high crime rates. Then let’s throw in our wide open border with drugs pouring in 24-7. Illegals walking in and treated better than citizens. Cartel drug Lords.
Drugs are everywhere in every state. Check it out carefully.
In my county, the sheriff hates drugs and loves to make a bust. He seizes automobiles and in one instance I know of, a grow house. He has auctions twice a year for seized property and county surplus. He’s tough on crime, is adored by residents and has a job for life.
Well, to be fair my husband is the sweetest man in the world and moving states probably wouldn't change that. However, I want to go where the gardening is good. ;-)You could consider Alaska, of course having one of the highest domestic violence rates in the entire country and some of the lowest test scores in our public school‘s and more than our share of hard drug/ alcohol/homeless rates and up to 8 months of winter could be a deterrent; However, we ain’t got Snakes!
I see that's from 2020. Around that time Washington changed their laws so that police can't go after the bad guys. This had a dramatic result of everyone from young kids to hardened adults jumping on the crime band wagon. Violent crime has risen 25%, mostly murders. https://mynorthwest.com/3571991/hom...in-nearly-30-years-violent-crime-on-the-rise/
Looks like Alaska wins the prize!I always knew we were a bunch of despots up here; however i wasn't aware we‘re as bad as we are! Did i mention, we aint got Snakes?
Based on that map, you almost live in Camelot; quit whining and go plant something!
