The problem I have with upside down tomatoes is I get good enough results with indeterminate varieties in the ground that even putting them in a 10 gallon pot results in a smaller plant and roughly ~50% less fruit. More soil than that is more than I want to hoist up in the air and needs a really sturdy pot and structure to hold the weight.
