Gaz, Interesting, but in the ARID WEST... due to a geological drop off rift just one mile from our ranch in Central Cal. one can go onto way over 100,000 +++++ acres and would be hard pressed to get even 4 gal. of water per minute from water wells that are 400' or much deeper ( my well is at 29 ft. deep and produces 156 gal. / min. of palatable hard water), so gardening and having orchard trees is quite difficult . That is IF you DO NOT get salt water. Now the only trees are Valley oaks that will be 100 ft. or MUCH MORE between each tree. Rainfall is about 6.5" per year and only from Nov. to mid Feb.. Summer and fall every day temperatures range from 98* to 117* with it dropping about 5* at night. The land is best suited for open range land for beef cattle with the best of it would have a carrying capacity of one cow per 10 acres in the winter months only. That is if one has any water for cattle to drink. Keeping chickens or other foul is only a dream due to huge number of coyotes, racoons, possums, fox, bobcats, mountain lions, hawks, etc.. LOCATION , LOCATION, LOCATION !!! :idunno
