Last Friday Ava spent the day with us and she wanted to speak to me in private, so I knew something was up. She wanted to make, rather than buy, a Christmas present for her parents. We passed around a few ideas and settled on a fairy garden. I had most of the materials, like container, soil mix and charcoal, but had to purchase a few terriarum plants. A trip to the local reservoir for driftwood completed the supplies.

Today she put it together and she is ecstatic with the results. Now, my wife wants one for herself.

I love it, especially with the dome cover. No one can mess those pebbles. Yes, I want one too but with outdoor plants, if I'm not being too picky. :D

It appears that terrariums are coming back in style, so domed fairy gardens may be the next big thing! Ava is ahead of the game. She did a nice job on it.

Your Ava did a fantastic job. I have always preferred presents made with a bit of the giver's heart. Her parents will be happy with the present, I am sure.

Note, with the cover, that terrarium should seldom need tending or watering, right? That's the kind of garden I'd like to have as well. Maverick (13) made something much like that for his Mother's Day present last year -- sans fairies. Those lidded starting containers do work well for such a project.
