2 or 3 years ago I posted what is best peach for zone 5/6. I forgot what variety everyone suggested but I planted 3 trees. I purchased them form a quality nursery and paid full price. Last year the trees produced fruit, tried making a pie disaster. Today when I checked, the trees where filled with ripe fruit. My nephew's girlfriend was with me. She is a good cook so we made a deal. We picked all the peaches, she is going to make pies which we will split.:weee:weee:weee:ya:ya:drool:drool Having big problems with pears.

Yay! My peaches are just so so in flavor. I think they would do better if our temps were higher.

I'm trying to remember if that is what my neighbor said hers was.

I have a Stark Elberta and it only made three peaches this year and they were ready mid-June. They were delicious though. I am going to order a few more different varieties this fall, try to stagger the harvest. I had two trees, but one died, so I guess I don't get enough pollination. My neighbor's 2 trees were loaded to the ground this year and she sent us some. I am tired of paying $40 a bushel. :\

Trade for pie, that is a good deal! Pie takes some work, but is worth it. I haven't made a pie in forever.

I am THE pie maker in our family. There are three rules:
(1) pie crust
A) ALWAYS fresh
B) NEVER add more flour--roll between two pieces of waxed paper
(2) filling
GOOD recipe--NEVER from a can
I could give you a primer...if you want, but I make pies to die for and many people have told me that I should charge for my pies.
Whole family loves cherry, most like apple and peach, several of us love pumpkin, SIL loves coconut cream.
