The flu has hit Ny and it is bad. Clients have ended up in hospital from it. I pick up one of my guys for work every day, he has the flu. I don't get a flu shot, every time I did it gave me the flu. Last night stayed in watched TV all night, only drank cranberry juice. Over slept today felling Iike I have a bad hangover. Not a good time to get sick have to go to hospital Tue for some tests. Feb 15 starts winter recess 10 days of full kennel. 1 1/2 hours of work then need to go to 2 stores for supplies.

You take care, apparently this is a really bad one and this year's flu shot even for those of us that get one isn't going to work too well. Wipe door knobs down and wash you hands often especially after handling money that along with things others might touch, and try and keep your hands away from your mouth and nose, hard thing to remember I know but every little bit helps.
It's a good idea to have a little bottle of hand sanitizer in you pocket. I kid you not from what I'm hearing this is a really bad one.

I make this for flu and never get the flu. I buy the dried berries from Amazon. Elderberry keeps the flu virus from multiplying. You might have the flu, but the original virus will die off and cannot keep making more virus, so in about a week or so, you are much better.

Elderberry Honey Syrup
2 cups dried Elderberries
6 cups Filtered Water
2 oz sliced, peeled ginger root, cut into small pieces
36 oz (Net Wt) Raw/Unfiltered Honey (Local honey is best)

Combine Elderberries, ginger and water.
On stovetop heat until boiling. Lower heat and simmer for 20 minutes.
While hot, use immersion blender to remove fruit from seeds (approximately 5 minutes).

Pour into large fine screen strainer over a large bowl. Using large spoon, stir, scrape, mash berries until most of the fruit is off seed and moisture is squeezed out. Rinse strainer with an additional 1/2 to 1 cup more of filtered water, to get all the residual goodness of the berries.

Cool to body temp and add honey. Heating raw honey destroys the enzymes, that give honey it's healing qualities.
Pour into 1/2 gallon canning jar or 2 quart canning jars and refrigerate. I put some in a used honey bottle for easier dispensing.

To minimize risk of getting the cold/flu virus, take 1 Tablespoon of this syrup daily, during cold season, or when you suspect you might get a cold. If you do get a cold, start taking 2 Tbsp three times daily for the duration of the illness plus 3-4 days.

When flu hit Indiana, shot was worthless as it had no effect on that virus.

Pretty much the same story nation wide. Seems they missed the mark on which flu would be prevalent this year, but having the shot is supposed to help it e a milder case if you do contact it.

I haven't had a flu shot in years, nor has any of my immediate family. I used to do flu clinics where I doled out those shots all day long and, of course, worked as a nurse for 20 yrs around all the worst of germs. Never got the flu, neither has my kids, my mother and father, etc.

Each year's flu shot is made from the previous year's mutation of the flu, so by the time it comes out to be given, the flu has again mutated and that shot is not going to help one iota. It's basically like putting normal saline in your arm and is about as effective. Just makes people feel like they've done something good, but it seems to be the opposite...almost everyone I've met that got the flu also had taken that year's vaccine for it.

Every year the nursing homes are overrun with flu and every year all the patients are religiously given that flu shot...when will they ever learn? In my Dad's nursing home he's the only resident that does not receive the flu shot...and has also never gotten the flu, though each year they are on lock down due to the flu epidemic that sweeps the place. On top of that, when these people get the flu, they try to administer Tamiflu to all the residents on that wing as a preventative...and it never prevents. He also doesn't get the Tamiflu...I won't allow them to give it to him.

The definition of insanity? Doing the same thing over and over, expecting different results.
