I re-homed my tiny flock of chickens last Sunday. A nice young single mom where DH works wanted them. She has 2 children, 12 and 7. I think they will all do fine.
We rehomed the 4 chickens we had here also. They where not all that happy here. They love the spacious yard and other chickens where they went.

You may have to ask yourself if you are happy or sad that they are gone.
To me, it's a sigh of relief that you don't have that responsibility and chicken poo to deal with anymore, but it's kind of sad that you don't have those fresh eggs and free fertilizer anymore.:\

I am sad they are gone. I had kept my very best hens, and an excellent rooster. But I am very happy they have a great new home. The fresh eggs will be missed too, although all of the deep litter was going to the compost. We here stopped gardening when he decided the marriage was over.

That’s too bad. Bunch of chicken haters! LOL

I know right?! Raymore MO is a suburb of Kansas City MO. Many of the population came from the city life....and prefer an HOA over a small flock of chickens. I can attest (I am total city girl), that the majority of city dwellers are clueless as to the life of a chicken. And prolly shouldn't be trying to raise them...lol

When I was small..a child of the 60's....our local zoo..Swope Park...had cows, goats, AND chickens.....in their tiny little domestic animal section. Our school went to the zoo several times for field trips, and I remember one time we got to milk a cow. But I don't remember seeing any chicken nests or eggs.

If you spend much time on the sister chicken forum it doesn't take long to see how clueless a lot of folks are about chickens. It's not just city folks, some country folks really aren't what you think of as country anymore when it comes to chickens or other animals. While I admire many of them for trying, it often does not take long for the romance to meet reality. While they may have good motives (know where their food comes from and teach that to their kids or maybe teach kids about the life cycle) many should never have started.

BYC is where I started, back in 2011. I have learned much since then. But I doubt I can have chickens at the new place. The lot is just not large enough, to support anything but a flower garden.
