Got a few more plants in today. The lettuce looks a bit wilty, but everything else has handled the transplant fine. My spinach was interesting, the ones in the red solo cups I used because I ran clean out of space had an enormous root system. The ones in my green plant pots didn't have that huge system.

I'm really happy with my tomatoes. They are already huge, 18" tall! I probably would have waited until March to plant them if I knew how impressive they would become. Luckily I have the space for them, so they can grow as big as they want until it warms up a bit.

The peppers have returned to a normal green shade and put out a few tiny new leaves. What ever it was that made them so mad, they are not mad anymore.

I did have to lecture a cucumber on being too early and nip off a few flowers. It's hardly big enough for that nonsense! Luckily, most of the other curcubids are being very sensible about focusing on becoming a big plant first.

All the cold weather crops are in now, apart from the ones that need hand seeded. I won't be doing the seeding today as my daughter has a birthday party to go to, but tomorrow I'll get out there with my seeds and get things going.

I think about moving when I work in my garden. Will I miss my current garden? Well, yes. I love our little yard jam packed with plants, but the truth is we need more space. Outside and inside every inch of everything is covered, multi-purpose, and crowded. If I have even one acre of land I won't have to go hunting for a likely place to put a pot or a new garden bed.

Plus I'd really love some fruit trees! I've just got one!

If you move, it will take quite a bit of adjustment shifting from a cool climate to a warmer one. Getting used to growing different things, and dealing (or not dealing) with different weather, pest, & disease issues. Challenging, but ultimately rewarding. It sounds like you would really enjoy having a large & diverse orchard.

AMK,

You do realize that Washington State leads the 50 states in the production of apples? It is also #1 for pears and #2 for both apricots and grapes.

Have you considered venturing just over the Cascades into the fruit growing region?

Affordability is a factor. For the value of our current home, without getting into another mortgage, we can afford property on the east coast. On the west coast it's very expensive.

So you have good insurance and a storm shelter.
I think my husband has pretty much decided on one of the Carolinas or Virginia, and has decided we're going to buy a fixer upper. He's swooning over a 6 bedroom 3 bath fixer upper right now. >_>

I don't care as long as I get at least one acre, and it has an acre, so it's fine. We'll know when we can start seriously looking at houses when we find out how long it will take to finish some things here. I'm getting my teeth corrected and I don't want to leave until it's done.

Had a great day in the garden yesterday. All the direct sowed seeds are in. There's some holes in my cabbage leaves, but didn't find anything eating them at night or during the day. I'll put a row cover over them today.
